Nestled on over an acre of park-like grounds in Duluth's historic mansion district, the A.G. Thomson House is a graceful 1909 Dutch Colonial designed by a prominent architect of the era. Set on a quiet dead-end street, the bed and breakfast inn is just seven blocks from Lake Superior and Duluth’s scenic Lakewalk, yet less than three miles from downtown and the Canal Park entertainment district. The premier location also is only a few blocks from the newest segment of the Superior Hiking Trail, and offers a convenient base for exploring some of Minnesota’s most beautiful state parks and other attractions along the spectacular North Shore Scenic Drive.
What else distinguishes the A.G. Thomson House from your other lodging alternatives in Duluth? Many guests say they are drawn to our tasteful and comfortable decor, and our clean, casual, welcoming atmosphere. They especially love the oversized windows that let the light shine in and the views project out over Lake Superior. Those who appreciate the great outdoors enjoy strolling among the trees, gardens, and billion year-old granite outcropping covering our large scenic property. Others simply like to relax in the comfy Adirondack chairs on our spacious front veranda. And then, of course, there's the food..."No restaurant could have served us a better, more unique breakfast than you did – it was fantastic!"
However you choose to unwind while visiting Minnesota's beautiful Lake Superior region, we think you'll love the peaceful atmosphere of our luxurious bed and breakfast inn. It's like being in the country, but with all the convenience and year-round activities the beautiful City of Duluth has to offer. We look forward to welcoming you to our home sometime soon to Historic Elegance Nestled in Nature. The suites in the main house are named after four previous owners of this historic home. The Ryerson Suite is named for the family of William Ryerson, who were the original owners of the house. The Ryersons hired Edwin Hewitt, a Minnesota native and highly acclaimed architect, to build the home in 1909. This famed builder of several historic and beautiful buildings in the Twin Cities is the man for which the Hewitt Suite is named. Later, in the span of 40 years between the mid-1920s and the 1960s, the Salyards family made this house their home, and the Salyards Suite honors this family. Finally, the Mayors Suite is named for one of the most recent residents of the A.G. Thomson House, John Fedo, who served as the mayor of Duluth from 1986 to 1989. Of course history is not the only thing you’ll be able to experience during your stay at the A.G. Thomson House. The Bed & Breakfast is situated in an ideal location, which allows our guests to experience all that Duluth, Minnesota has to offer. During your stay, you can hike the Superior Hiking Trail, one of America’s top 10 trails as named by Backpacker Magazine.
